December 21st night is the longest night in every year which is called as winter solstice. It happens when the one of the earth's pole is in maximum tilt with the sun. One this same day we are going to witness another happening i.e the greater conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn.
The Jupiter and Saturn are getting closer at an angle of 6'60''(6 minutes 60 seconds). Last time it was happened on July 16, 1663 with 5'10''(5 minutes 10 seconds). The next conjunction will appear on 2040. The date of conjunction is determined by the position on Jupiter and Saturn. The date of solstice is determined by the angle of tilt of earth.
How to witness the Great conjunction 2020?
You can witness this conjunction on Southwest direction after the sunset. The Jupiter will look like a brighter star and the Saturn will some what fainter. They will be visible to our unaided eye.
